Intensive Care Unit

ICU is designed specifically for the treatment of patients who are either seriously ill, at Risk of developing a serious complication or recovering from major surgery. Specialized staff and sophisticated technology are used around the clock to stabilize and improve the patient’s condition. Nurses, trained and certified in critical care, are dedicated to the care of each patient. An ICU Medical Fellow (doctor) is present 24 hours a day and is responsible for medical care. In addition, an intensive care specialist is present during normal working hours and immediately available after hours.

Having a family member in ICU is a difficult time for families. No doubt you will be worried about the outcome of your relative’s condition. Many patients are treated with mechanical devices, and have tubes placed for a variety of important reasons, eg: the endotracheal, or breathing tube, placed into the lungs (usually through the mouth) for connection to a mechanical ventilator. Although such treatments are routine for many conditions, family members often find the sight overwhelming at first. Other worries may include concerns about pain control, sleep deprivation and adequate nutrition.

Rest assured we are aware of these and other potential problems, and have strategies in place to minimize them.

We strive to improve your relative’s condition as quickly as possible so that it is safe for them to be cared for in a more peaceful environment. Despite the sophisticated treatments required, your relative would always be treated with dignity and compassion
